We’re thrilled to announce that Beyond Green Games has been selected for Erasmus+ funding, launching a new chapter of transnational immersions in Germany, Spain, and France, 2026 – 2028. Here’s what’s coming next.
Our project Beyond Green Games (BGG) has been selected by the French Erasmus+ Agency / Education and Training, Small-scale Partnerships in School Education (KA210-SCH)!
Beyond Green Games is a creative educational project raising awareness about the environment through eco-games.
Conceived in 2022 by French artist and curator Isabelle Arvers—following her research tour across 18 countries of the Souths — with Brazilian carnival artist and curator Lívia Diniz, the project uses independent green games to engage young people with the climate impact of digital entertainment, hacking video games to encourage animist and first natives perspectives, cooperation over competition, and lighter, more diverse ways of playing and cocreating with communities.
Led by KARERON (FR), alongside LABEA (ES) and MIREVI (GE), the project starts in December 2026 with the support of the European Union.
Kareron (Marseille, France) — a pioneer in machinima & game art workshops in schools, universities, and community centres, has co-produced research-creation projects linking video games, ecology, and artistic expression internationally. Its work is grounded in over a decade of research on decolonial approaches to game culture.
MIREVI (Düsseldorf, Germany) — an interdisciplinary research group specialising in mixed reality, AI, and immersive technologies at Hochschule Düsseldorf, with strong experience in inclusive digital education, with a focus on free and accessible tools.
LABEA (Navarra, Spain) — promotes the emergence of a new ecological culture through the convergence of art and science, with communities. It has been co-creating art-ecology workshops, interdisciplinary residencies, and festivals with artists, schools and cultural organisations since 2017.
Beyond Green Games invites youngsters, creatives, researchers and teachers to hack video games, make machinimas and design eco-games through a four-step cycle :
Observe (augmented walks), Feel (deep listening and embodiment practices), Hack (critical analysis and counter-narratives), and Co-create (producing films and game prototypes).
Three transnational 8-day BGG immersions are planned for Autumn 2027
- Mülheim an der Ruhr, Germany — embodied ecologies, performative practices and multispecies storytelling, with MIREVI and Theater an der Ruhr students.
- Basaburua, Spain — rural immersion and traditional knowledge with LABEA and Oihanzabal School students and teachers.
- Marseille, France — urban and Mediterranean ecologies, with KARERON at MediaLab Chroniques with youth living in intercity suburbs.
The project will produce, showcase and make available a free of charge, open license (CC BY) learning toolkit to be distributed on European school networking channels like EPALE or the European School Education Platform (incorporating eTwinning),and internationally among teachers and young multipliers.
Thank you to the French Erasmus+ Agency and to all our partners for trusting, playing, and making our Beyond Green Games dreams go ON!
